Monument to M. K. Čiurlionis Sakmė. Karaliai (Lore. The Kings) (Parko g. 3A)

In 2018, a monument to M. K. Čiurlionis by sculptor D. Matulaitė and architect J.Balkevičius was erected in the park of Prince Michał Ogiński, where once the young artist walked the alleys seeking inspiration and getting ready for his ascend to the world of art. The monument was inspired by one of M. K. Čiurlionis’ most famous paintings Karalių pasaka (Fairy Tale of Kings). Entire orb of M. K. Čiurlionis’ symbols is projected in the green light of marble. The sculpture is chiselled from lush green marble – Baltic green from Finland and Olive green, one of South Africa’s most beautiful and precious stones. The marble monument weighs about 12 tons. An impressive crown adorning the heads of kings weighs two more tons.
